Bristol And Wales Cat Rescue

Working Together To Give Cats A Second Chance

We get quite a few enquiries from people wanting indoor cats as they live in flats or on busy roads.

We are happy to home certain cats as indoor cats; indeed some are happiest this way - those which are timid, older cats who don't like to go far or cats which are deaf or may be FIV positive.

We would only home kittens as indoor pets in pairs unless someone is at home for most of the day as company, preferably both human and feline, is vital for kittens to grow into well-balanced cats.

Obviously, indoor cats will need a stimulating, fun environment to prevent them becoming bored and ultimately stressed - lots of interaction and cuddles with their owners, a window sill to bask on and from which to watch the world go by, toys - lots of them, but rotate them every few days to keep them new and exciting. Perhaps a cat tree to climb - cats like being up high and a scratch post is a must if you value your furniture! Most of all they will need your time and company.

Do cats need grass?  It seems to help some cats with their digestion especially those prone to hairballs but not all cats eat grass. Those that do particularly favour Cocksfoot grass which is easy to grow in a tub indoors.

Our current cats suitable as indoor pets are (full postings on Cats for adoption page):

Timid cats:

Dandy

Dandy now sneaks onto his foster mum's lap for a cuddle and likes to play with a ball for the first time in his life.

Timid kitten:

Barney - all black , 16 weeks old , very scared but accepting cuddles and just purred for the very first time. After just a few weeks Barney is now running to greet his foster mum and is actually jealous and cries for attention when he sees her cuddling the other cats!

Quiet girls happy to stay indoors:

Tara,  affectionate tortoiseshell and white about 2 years old - doesn't like going out, just wants lots of cuddles.

Squeaky, fluffy black and white glamourpuss about 8 years old; initially shy but very loving when she knows you.

FIV positive boy:

Bruno, young, handsome tabby in good health and should remain that way for years to come. Best as an only cat.

Deaf boy:

Young, affectionate, pure white boy, loves people. Best as an only cat

Blind girl:

Misty is a beautiful 7 year old dilute tortoiseshell who was abandoned on our doorstep. The vets can see nothing wrong with her eyes and think she has been blind from birth.

She is very friendly and is looking for a quiet home with a set routine - no moving the furniture around every 5 minutes! She would be fine with other gentle cats who won't pounce on her.
